Compact, concentrated heating

HEAT WHERE THE
PROCESS NEEDS IT

Nozzle heaters are designed to fit closely around a cylindrical component, concentrating heat within a relatively small area.

They are commonly used on injection moulding machinery to maintain the required temperature around the machine nozzle and help keep the processed material in the correct condition.

Hotset UK can manufacture nozzle heaters around the dimensions, voltage, power, termination and installation requirements of the application.

Replacement heater?

If the original specification is unavailable, send us the dimensions, photographs, machine details, drawing or an existing sample. We can use this information to help identify a suitable replacement.

Technical specification

MAXIMUM DESIGN FIGURES

Maximum watt density35 W/in²5.3 W/cm²

These are maximum design figures, not automatic selection values. The suitable rating depends on fit, heat transfer, dimensions, cycling, control and the complete application.

Why nozzle heaters?

DESIGNED FOR THE APPLICATION

The correct construction depends upon operating temperature, available space, watt density, fit and the surrounding process.

Compact construction

Designed for applications where effective heating is required within a restricted installation area.

Close-fitting heat

Manufactured to fit around the nozzle, supporting effective heat transfer when correctly installed and clamped.

Bespoke dimensions

Diameter, width and construction can be selected around the available space and the heated component.

Electrical options

Voltage, power, lead arrangement and connection style can be specified to suit the machine and control system.

Temperature sensing

Suitable arrangements can incorporate or accommodate a thermocouple where temperature feedback is required.

Replacement manufacture

Existing heaters, drawings and application details can be used to help produce replacement products.

Configuration options

BUILT AROUND
YOUR MACHINE

A nozzle heater is rarely defined by diameter and width alone. Its electrical connection, cable protection, clamping and sensor arrangement can be just as important.

Diameter and width

Manufactured to fit the nozzle and the available installation space.

Voltage and wattage

Selected according to the electrical supply and the heating requirement of the process.

Lead exit position

Axial, radial or application-specific arrangements may be considered depending upon the heater construction.

Lead protection

Cable construction and mechanical protection should be selected for the temperature and movement around the installation.

Clamping arrangement

The heater must maintain suitable contact with the heated surface to transfer heat effectively.

Sensor provision

Thermocouple type, position and construction can be considered as part of the complete heating arrangement.

Typical applications

WHERE THEY ARE USED

Always confirm the heater construction against the actual temperature, environment and mechanical installation.

Injection moulding nozzles

Maintaining process temperature around the machine nozzle.

Hot-runner systems

Localised heating around nozzles and associated moulding components.

Plastics processing

Heating small cylindrical areas within extrusion and moulding equipment.

Special-purpose machinery

Bespoke cylindrical heating requirements in industrial equipment.

Preparing an enquiry

WHAT DO WE
NEED TO KNOW?

The more information supplied, the easier it is to assess the heater and provide an accurate quotation.

Technical consideration

FIT IS CRITICAL

A band or nozzle heater relies upon effective contact with the surface it is heating. An incorrect diameter, damaged surface, poor clamping or contamination between the heater and nozzle can create localised overheating and shorten heater life.
